In this class students will be immersed in the Brazilian Portuguese language, culture, sports and music for three hours.

In our language portion of the day students will learn Portuguese in an immersive manner, meaning they will learn the language being surrounded by it the whole time. Students will learn the alphabet, phonetics, pronunciation to the Brazilian Portuguese language through activities, stories, games, music, etc and practicing through everyday scenarios.

Following we will do Capoeira, learning different self-defense movements, working on flexibility, coordination, balance and strength using only our bodies. Music will also be taught with different percussion instruments used in Capoeira such as “atabaque, pandeiro, agogo, & berimbau,” as well as singing in Portuguese by learning traditional Capoeira music among other traditional children’s music.

In this class students will be immersed in the Spanish language and culture for three hours.

Students will learn Spanish in an immersive manner, meaning they will learn the language being surrounded by it the whole time. Students will learn the alphabet, phonetics, pronunciation to the Spanish language through activities, story telling, etc and practicing communication through everyday scenarios. Our day will also include exercise, typical games and songs among other traditional children’s activities.

Fridays: 9:30am- 12:30pm

For the little ones, this class works on essential developmental skills as well as basic capoeira moves and the introduction to its rhythm through some percussion instruments and capoeira songs.

For the older ones we start working on more self-defense techniques, coordination, balance, flexibility, body control and strength to the rhythm of capoeira music. An important part of capoeira is its music so we also incorporate the learning of percussion instruments and singing in Portuguese. Capoeira movements are taught in Portuguese so there is language acquisition as well.

In this class we will work on more advanced self-defense techniques, as well as coordination, balance, flexibility, body control and strength exercises. We will work our contact movements with various items such as kicking bags or dummies. Music and rhythm are always a very important part and what also distinguishes capoeira from other martial arts so the learning of various percussion instruments used in capoeira specifically and learning capoeira songs in Portuguese will also be part of class.

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that was disguised as a dance. This class offers a rich cultural experience combining dance, acrobatics, and attack and defense elements of traditional martial arts. We work on group exercises, positivity, respect to one another and self-defense techniques as well as working on coordination, balance, body control, flexibility, and incorporating the musicality of the art through learning to play some percussion instruments as well as singing in Portuguese. This is a fun way to exercise the whole body and learn about a new language and culture.
